Abstract: Irresponsible consumer behavior presents a significant obstacle to effectively implementing waste management practices in urban areas, particularly in developing countries. While existing literature has extensively examined the factors influencing individuals’ household waste recycling behavior (HWRB), how this behavior could be sustained among residents is still a challenge for both academics and practitioners. Despite literature addressing the impact of individuals’ goals to sustain pro-environmental behavior, the underlying mechanism is yet to be explored. Therefore, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how individuals’ goals interact with other factors contributing to the sustained practice of HWRB. An integrated theoretical model is developed from the outset of the Theory of Reasoned Goal Pursuit (TRGP) and the Norm Activation Model (NAM). An empirical study was conducted in a developing country – Bangladesh, surveying 353 young consumers residing in Dhaka city. The partial least squares structural equation modeling technique was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that an individual’s motivation to pursue their active pro-environmental goals and approval goals plays a crucial role in sustaining HWRB. Furthermore, moral norms, shaped by consumers’ sense of responsibility and eco-awareness, significantly influence the pro-environmental goals to remain active. The results also suggest that the impact of adequate facilities or convenience becomes insignificant when individuals are driven by their active goals in performing HWRB. Based on these findings, this study recommends that policymakers and practitioners implement strategies to foster pro-environmental and approval goals among young consumers. Such measures could improve recycling rates, particularly in developing countries with inadequate waste management infrastructure.

Abstract: The adoption of digital technologies in agriculture offers opportunities for efficiency and sustainability, particularly in emerging economies with resource and infrastructure constraints. However, challenges persist, exacerbated by crises such as COVID-19 and geopolitical instabilities, highlighting agricultural supply chains’ fragility. Industry 5.0-driven digital transformation (DT) can mitigate these challenges by enhancing food security, supply chain resilience, and environmental sustainability. This study identifies and analyzes key drivers of DT in agricultural production from a holistic perspective. Through a literature review and expert validation, 19 key drivers were identified in the context of Bangladesh. An integrated multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach, combining the Fermatean fuzzy sets (FFS) with the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, was applied to examine the drivers and explore interrelations among them. The results indicate that the most influential drivers are ’commitment from regulatory bodies’, ’maximizing the use of dwindling resources’, ’fostering rural development’, and ’the need for safe food’, with prominence values of 4.175, 4.001, 3.999, and 3.888, respectively. Additionally, ’commitment from regulatory bodies’ emerges as the most impactful causal factor, having a causal weight of 1.848. These findings provide insights for policymakers and industry managers in emerging economies, supporting strategic decision-making to drive sustainable agricultural transformation and achieve the relevant sustainable development goals.

Authors: Islam, Md Tamzidul
Abstract: The worldwide plastic waste generation reached over 400 million metric tons annually and is seriously threatening
human health and the global environment in general. Several previous research recognizes the role of pro-environmental
goal and explored how it impacts plastic waste management behavior to tackle plastic pollution. However, research on
the factors influencing them is still very limited. This paper provides a theoretical model that includes factors affecting the
formation of pro-environmental goals (PEG) and its subsequent impact on the intention of pro-environmental behavior in
the context of plastic consumption behavior among young people. The fundamental concept of the model was adopted
from the theoretical contracts of the Theory of Reasoned Goal Pursuit (TRGP) to explore young consumers’ intention
towards responsible plastic management behavior (RPMB), which includes reduction of plastic consumption and proper
disposal of plastic waste. Data was collected from 340 respondents from a developing country-Bangladesh and analyzed
using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique and Smart PLS software. It was found that PEG significantly
affects the intention of RPMB. Results also showed that factors, like moral norm, sense of responsibility, and guilt feeling
significantly impact forming PEG, while the impact of attitude and eco-awareness on it was found insignificant. This
research theoretically contributes by offering deeper insight into how PEG is formed that can drive individuals towards
developing the intention of pro-environmental behavior. Furthermore, research findings also suggest that in the case
of pro-environmental goal formation, non-cognitive and normative drivers such as moral norm, sense of responsibility,
and feeling of guilt play a more crucial role than cognitive factors such as attitude and eco-awareness. Therefore, practitioners
could use the research findings, particularly in developing countries, to implement proper measures promoting
responsible consumer behavior to fight against plastic pollution.

Title: Understanding Young Consumers’ E-Waste Recycling Behaviour in Bangladesh: A Developing Country Perspective
Authors: Islam, Md Tamzidul
Abstract: The rising amount of electronic waste (e-waste) presents serious threats to the environment
and public health. Addressing this challenge necessitates a focus on improving
the e-waste recycling rate, which is facilitated by consumers’ spontaneous participation.
This paper explores the factors influencing young consumers’ e-waste recycling behavior
(EWRB) from a developing country’s perspective. Though existing literature has addressed
various factors affecting EWRB, the role of individuals’ pro-environmental goals (PEG)
remains underexplored. This paper provides an integrated theoretical model that incorporates
PEG alongside factors drawn from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Norm
Activation Model (NAM), and Behavioral Reasoning Theory (BRT). Data were collected
through a survey and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results reveal
that young consumers’ intentions toward EWRB are significantly influenced by economic
benefits, perceived behavioral control, moral norms, and PEG, while economic benefits
emerge as the most influential factor. However, the impact of attitude and subjective norm
on intention was found to be insignificant. Results indicate that despite having positive
intentions, young consumers were often deterred from recycling e-waste due to perceived
risks, indicating a negative moderating effect of perceived risk on the intention–behavior
relationship. Conversely, PEG positively moderates the impact of intention on EWRB,
reducing the intention–behavior gap. This paper contributes to the literature by enhancing
our understanding of how PEG interacts with other factors affecting EWRB. Practically,
the findings offer valuable recommendations for policymakers and practitioners aiming to
promote EWRB among young consumers, particularly in Bangladesh.
