Five diarylideneacetones-I, 5-di-o-chlorophenyl-1, &pentadien-3-one (1a), l, S-di-o methoxy-phenyl-1,4-pentadien-3-one (1b), 1,5-di-m-hydroxyphenyl-1,4-pentadien-3-one (1c), 1,5-di-z-nitrophenyl-1,4-pentadien-3-one (ld) and 1,5-di-p-nitrophenyl-1,4-pentadien-3-one (1e) were synthesized by the reaction between acetone and appropriate aromatic aldehyde in presence of sodium hydroxide in aqueous ethanol. The structures of the compounds la-le were determined by their UV, IR, tH NMR, '3C NMR, mass spectral data and elemental analyses.en_US
